Video to GIF FAQ

Questions, answered.

  • No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your file stays on your device and is never uploaded to a server.
  • Up to 30 seconds. Long or wide GIFs need more browser memory, so a very large output may need a shorter range or fewer frames per second.
  • A GIF stores every frame as a separate image, so the file grows with duration, frames per second and width. For a smaller file, shorten the range, lower the FPS or choose a narrower width.
  • Any video your browser can play. MP4 (H.264) and WebM work almost everywhere; MOV, MKV and others depend on your browser. If a file won’t open, convert it to MP4 first.
